Tips & Tricks: Hidden Gems Behind the Export Button

Mr. Robot tracks activity on his site to help him improve the tools. He knows if a particular function is super-popular, or if something is being overlooked, or even just not very useful afterall. The other day he realized that only 3 out of every 1,000 visitors clicked the ‘export’ button. It actually used to be named ‘permalink’ but he wanted to try renaming it to see if that made a difference… it didn’t. So he decided to explain it in his blog a bit and wants feedback… do you have a use for these features? Take the poll at the bottom of the post and let him know!

SimC Export: For those of you that love using SimC, we provide code to input right into SimC. Hey, we use it all the time too! It’s a great tool for us to check the accuracy of our default stat weights.

Reforgerade Export: This was just added last week, and it’s a pretty handy in-game mod. You open a window with the reforge vendor, open reforgerade, then paste Mr. Robot’s export code right into the window. The mod will make all of the suggested reforges for you.

Permalinks: Mr. Robot will generate a link to any set of options you choose.

  • Share your gear with a friend for feedback. Mr. Robot will automatically pick a few options based on your current state in the optimizer. For example, if you haven’t clicked the optimize button, Mr. Robot will generate a link to your pre-optimized gear. But if you have clicked optimize, the link will point to the optimized gear set. Either way, the link generation window will let you switch around the default options to create the link you’re looking for. Give it a shot!
  • Share a BiS list on your blog: Choose the “best in slot” option for “which gear set?” Click update link and it’s ready to share. You can even choose to use a locked set of gear, which might be useful if you favor one trinket over another, for example.
  • Share your custom stat weights: Many people have custom stat weights, or have a friend that asks for stat weight help. Just edit the stats in the regular UI, open the export window, and Mr. Robot will have already selected the “use my current stat weights” option for you. Grab the link and share it.

I’d love to have functionality to export the stat-weights into Pawn.

I like your suggestion, since Mr. Robot’s expanding to be more platform-based. However, there is a ‘catch’ to exporting our stat weights to Pawn. We handle a few stats differently, like splitting up spell hit and regular hit, as well as a few other things. And unless we handled stats like Pawn does, it would do weird things with the stat information. It’s not impossible, but would take a bit of work on our end that isn’t a top priority right now.

:) Thanks Vee. So far, I am only using Pawn to help me decide on the moment to roll need vs greed while in dungeons. Then when I have a chance, I go to the site and check if it is an upgrade for me..

I see, so once we have the web version of RoboCouncil, for you to access on your Win7 phone, that will also solve the problem?! :) @elkagorasa

I use the export option when I have optimized a friend’s character, and want to make sure they’re seeing the same thing I’m seeing. Especially if I have chosen custom options, custom stat weights, etc.

For instance, my girlfriend plays a BM Hunter, with some strange stat priorities. I set up an optimization for her character, and emailed her the permalink. Now she clicks that link to get to your site, since it loads the custom stat weights and options.

Come to think of it, I suppose I should show her how to save a profile.

I have also exported to SimC for my own use.

@tdmenzel Thanks, this is super helpful. We’re working on a site redesign that will have accounts. Perhaps a future feature could be to send a profile to a friend, all they have to do is click on the link to save it.
