Spellblade script setup in Ask Mr. Robot

Why the Spellblade script matters:

The Spellblade script models the fight very closely when executing the fight well, for a 20-person group. The simulator also takes into account the chance you are targeted with something bad (like Mark of Frost) and have to move. When that happens, the rotation automatically starts using spells that are castable while you run.

We also modeled in the adds, grouped appropriately for AoE damage like the Icy adds, or spread out a bit more like the fiery adds. However, we reviewed hundreds of logs to find the trends of how people are grouping the adds. We modeled them accordingly. We also found the average time-to-live for each of the type of adds, and the simulator picks a random amount of time for them to live within the specified range. That being said, how much your DPS the adds in a particular, actual fight, can make a big difference on your DPS.  Continue reading

A Penny For Your Thoughts?

Some of you might be familiar with our combat infographics, some might not. We want to hear from all of you!

You see, we take a different approach to most things, innovating and improving along the way. And since these combat infographics are a pretty radical change to viewing log data, we want your feedback. Please take our survey 🙂

As a “Thank You” for helping us, we want to help your raid team. So we’ll be randomly choosing 5 people to win guild recruitment on our site. This guild recruitment is targeted to any spec you want, and we can link it to your guild recruitment page. We targeted recruitment messages on our site for our raid team, and it was pretty awesome.

They survey asks for your email, which is how we will contact winners. The emails will NOT be used for any marketing or annoying things. Mr. Robot is very anti-spam 🙂

Join Mr. Robot’s Raid Team!

Mr. Robot asked me to find some fun humans to join his (10/10) heroic horde raid team. We’re doing mythic and random fun things before 6.2 comes out.

The casual-hardcore mythic-bound raid team

We’re a ‘hardcore-casual’ raid team. “WHAT?!” you ask? We only raid 2 days a week, but we’re very efficient with our raid times… fast wipe recovery, quality attempts, etc. And while members try to make it to every raid, real life happens… work meetings, anniversary dinners, beer pong. And that’s ok, that’s why we want a larger roster. So don’t shy away from this opportunity because you think “Mr. Robot must be a crazy hardcore raider, no way I could keep up.” Because that isn’t us, we are busy outside of Warcraft too! But at the same time, we want someone skilled enough, and geared enough to jump right into our mythic progression. Oh, and have some fun too!

Speaking of Fun!

Maybe I’m biased, but our raids are fun. We don’t yell, we don’t get snippy… it’s a game and everyone is here to have fun. We’re usually laughing at something or another 🙂  But we do expect people to pay attention and learn, so time isn’t wasted.

The 25-man Roster

We want about a 22-24 person team so that when we run Mythic, we have the right people for the job. We don’t want to have a 30 man team, because too many people would sit out. If we need to, we’ll rotate people in and out, assuming everyone is amazing. And if some people aren’t performing well enough, we’ll work with you to get up to par so you aren’t benched.

Who are we recruiting?

  • 1 healer
  • We want, in priority order: 1 balance druid, 1 rogue, 1 death knight, 1 mage. And the 5th spot is open to another druid (feral or moonkin), warrior, or someone who’s just really awesome.
  • We want awesome people. If you would LOVE to join but don’t see your class / spec listed, let us know why you’d like to join anyway 🙂
  • Gear should be 680+

When & where do we raid?

Mondays from 8 pm – 11pm CST (server time) / 6pm – 9pm PST
Tuesdays from 8 pm – 11pm CST (server time) / 6pm – 9pm PST

Kul’Tiras-US, HORDE
Here’s a link to our logs.

Other perks:

Members of our raid team get a first look at all of our upcoming features for AskMrRobot.com. You are the guinea pigs first to test them out, even before alpha testers! And you can also influence feature decisions, since we all hang out on Mumble together during the raids, you have a captive audience with Mr. Robot’s developer (and me!).

How to apply:

Leave a comment with this info:

  • About yourself and a link to your character.
  • If you have a link to combat logs, that would also be very helpful. We want to make sure we pick the right people in case a server transfer is required.
  • Your Bnet tag so I can add you. You can also email that to feedback -at- askmrrobot dotz com, if you don’t want to post it in the comments. If you’re posting on a Monday or Tuesday, check back for comments from me, I might try to get you in the raid right away.

Mr. Robot asked me to find some fun Hunters & Healers to join his heroic horde raid team.

The casual-hardcore mythic-bound monstrous raid team

We’re a ‘hardcore-casual’ raid team. “WHAT?!” you ask? We only raid 2 days a week, but we’re very efficient with our raid times… fast wipe recovery, quality attempts, etc. And while we all try to improve our gear outside of the raid, there are some weeks people are too busy to do that. And that’s ok! So don’t shy away from this opportunity because you think “Mr. Robot must be a crazy hardcore raider, no way I could keep up.” Because that isn’t us, we are busy outside of Warcraft too! But at the same time, we want someone skilled enough, and geared enough to jump right into our heroic progression. Oh, and have some fun too!

Speaking of Fun!

Maybe I’m biased, but our raids are fun. We don’t yell, we don’t get snippy… it’s a game and everyone is here to have fun. We like learning fights together, and we understand that means a few wipes might happen.

The 25-man Roster

We want a full 25 man team so that when we get to Mythic, we have the right people for the job. Every week there’s at least 1 or 2 conflicts. And if some people aren’t performing well enough, we’ll work with you to get up to par so you aren’t benched. Assuming everyone is amazing, we’ll rotate in and out.

Who are we recruiting? Healers & Hunters

  • Disc priest! And 1 other healer (shaman, monk preferred, but anyone good will work)
  • 2 Hunters 🙂
  • iLevel 680 bare minimum, but 690+ is better
  • You don’t need to be on Kul’Tiras or Bladefist yet, but we want you to be willing to transfer when we get to mythic, assuming you like us, and we like you 🙂

Site Outtage – Microsoft SSL Certificate

Hi. First, I’m really sorry that users could not log in and optimize. What a way to start your weekend – thinking that you’ve been abandoned by your robot BFF. He’s back and still loves you, I promise!

You see, we use Windows Azure to host our site. It’s a great service, 364 days out of every year. It auto-scales our servers with our traffic, hosts all of the cached item lists, and all sorts of good stuff. But just like every boss thing you encounter, they have a weak spot: SSL Certificates.

Friday afternoon (2/22), the SSL certificate they issued for us (and all of their clients) expired. They didn’t renew it, so all of the sites who use them couldn’t access secure databases. That means we couldn’t process users’ logins and let them access logged in settings and features. This happened last year too, on leap day (2/29) because Microsoft’s SSL Certificates didn’t include leap day. Read the ZDnet article about this.

Well, it’s fixed now. About 11 hours after it went down… but those were PRIME gaming hours, weeks before a big patch too! Mr. Robot is very, very sorry this happened. He’s also very sorry that so many people were trying to reset their password, thinking that was the problem. If you had tried resetting your password during the outtage, you might need to reset it again. Once you do that, the login should work. If you did NOT try to reset your pw during the outtage, there should be no need to reset it – just log in as normal.

He is on a bus to visit some friends in Seattle to make sure this doesn’t happen on a random day in February, 2014! (ok, he isn’t on a bus… he’s just using internet channels, but thought a road trip sounded more hip.)

Thanks again for visiting Mr. Robot optimizer as often as you do. We really appreciate it.

SWTOR Beta – Who wants in?

Mr. Robot is giving away 1,000 SWTOR beta keys for the stress test coming up! If you’ve already been invited to the beta, these codes won’t give you anything extra, but if you haven’t gotten invited by Bioware yet, we’ve got the hookup.

Did I just hear you just Ask Mr. Robot if he’ll be building SWTOR tools? Yes he will! He’s working on the product plans already.

The first 1,000 people to sign up for Mr. Robot’s SWTOR email list get a beta key (and if you sign up for his other news items, he’ll give you +5 to stealth when the Robot Apocalypse starts).

IGN hooked us up with the free SWTOR codes to give away to our community. You’ve probably seen a lot of sites giving away this beta access, but IGN thought of us and wanted to share in the goodness. Pretty badass, right? We encourage you to check out their Prime membership since it comes with all sorts of perks, kind of a grab basket of what they have at that time. If Bioware gives them a ton of SWTOR codes, they pass it on to you. Right now, IGN Prime gets you some sweet hookups in addition to a guaranteed SWTOR closed beta spot, and they keep the surprises coming week after week!

  • SWTOR Beta key (priceless!)
  • Free Orcs Must Die download, a $14.99 value (by Robot Entertainment, total coincidence)
  • Free Bastion Soundtrack, a $10 value (we love this game!)
  • Free Uncharted 3 DLC (also an awesome game)
  • A free IGN Tshirt (US only)

So check it out now!

We’ll leave you with this star wars video from IGN:
